The Re 4/4 II are universal locomotives and are therefore used for passenger and freight trains. Heavy trains are usually hauled in double traction together with a Re 6/6. The Re 4/4 II locomotives represent the largest series of traction vehicles of the SBB with 277 delivered machines and were purchased between 1964 and 1985. With an output of 4,700 kW, the machine reaches a top speed of 140 km/h.
